$6M Investment Risk Averted Through Strategic Due Diligence

USD 6 Million Investment Risk Averted Through Strategic Due Diligence

Our client narrowly avoided a potential loss of USD 6 million in connection with the proposed acquisition of a historic building located in central Kyiv, Ukraine.

Lions Lawyers was engaged by a foreign investor seeking to deploy substantial capital into the Ukrainian real estate market. We conducted comprehensive legal due diligence on the target property, including title verification, litigation exposure, and regulatory risk assessment.

Following our review, we concluded that the transaction involved significant legal and political risks, including challenges to the validity of the seller’s title. We advised the client against proceeding with the acquisition.

Subsequently, court proceedings in Kyiv resulted in the historic property being returned to municipal ownership. As a consequence, no private party held lawful authority to dispose of the asset.

Our client’s decision to rely on our due diligence findings prevented a substantial financial loss and underscored the critical importance of thorough pre-acquisition legal risk analysis in emerging markets.
