Our client could have lost USD 6 million by entering into an unreliable deal related to the purchase of a historic building in central Kyiv, Ukraine. Lions Lawyers provided due diligence to a foreign client wishing to invest substantial funds in the property market. We ultimately concluded that the deal involved significant legal and political risks, and the client trusted our assessment. It later transpired that our prognosis was correct, as the local court in Kyiv returned the historic property to the ownership of the city. This meant that no private actors were in a legal position to sell the real estate.
